CLASSES

The Portland JATC will be offering the following Journeyman spring classes.  If you have a particular course you would like to see offered please get in touch with this office.

When offering these courses we need at least ten participants to efficiently present training. Please call us to reserve a space in these sessions at 786-9770.  All classes with * are a requirement for foremanship training. 

 

Code of Excellence  

 

IBEW Code of Excellence is a program designed to bring out the best in our construction members and demonstrates to our customers that IBEW members:

Construction Organizing Membership Education Training

 

C.O.M.E.T is a program designed to educate the Membership on how critical a role Organizing plays when it comes to bargaining strength and more opportunities for employment.

OSHA 10/30

 

This course will be offered as a10/30 hour training. Anyone wishing to complete 10 hours may do so or stay to complete all 30 hours to meet the  employment /work site requirement that vary in many parts of the country .  The new standards for teaching this class limit the numbers of hours per class to seven so they now require multiple days to complete this class. Schedule for completing 30 hour will be announced during the 10 hour class.

National Electrical Code Update   16 hours

 

This class will cover license requirements for updates for Mass/ New Hampshire and Maine.  Cost for this class will be

Saturday 1/18/12     7am: 3:30pm (Break & lunch provided)

Cost - $55 members $85 non members      Code book (not required) $67 members $75 Non members

 

National Electrical Code Update   45 hours

 

 

This course meets the requirements for the Journey workers (JW) or Masters Exam.  

This course will be held on Tuesday-Thursdays starting on 2/14/12    5:30-8:30pm

Cost $124 members 

$160 non members  

Code book required   Cost $67.

 

 

NECA Project Supervision 1 & 2

 

The Electrical Project Supervision program has been developed to provide important learning skills for supervisors with a wide range of responsibilities. These skills help maintain our competitive edge over our completion, making our jobs sites more productive, better quality and profitable.   Participation from a mix of foreman, apprentices and Employers, makes for a fast moving an interesting class. This class runs for eight nights.

 

Tuesday & Thursdays    Starting 3/1/12   5; 30-8:30pm*

 

 Coyne   First aid /CPR

 

First aid and CPR classes are an OSHA required class for all electricians. Each class is 3-4 hours depending on class size. These classes are opened to all members, members’ spouses and children. Dates will be announced.  *

 

IBEW Stewardship training

 

Stewardship training is presented by the IBEW National staff in two 3 hour sessions. The course helps stewards cope with the many challenges

of their position by providing them with necessary information.

 

 Some of the subjects covered are:

·        Roles and responsibilities

·        Basic legal guidance

·        Handling grievances

·        Harassment
